We've made it to event day! This day is going to be busy and go SO FAST. Take it one thing at a time and know
we are available for immediate communication! If you come across absolutely anything that you have a question about or need support with, you are able to text or call either of us and we will be on the lookout & ready for communication from our hosts.
Many lifters this is their first time and are very nervous. Create a positive, impactful environment by leading the cheering, yelling, and clapping for the first lifters as they go up on the platform. Continue to lead the high energy environment throughout the competition - it makes all the difference!
From the moment a lifter walks in, you want their experience to be energetic, positive, and fun. Having music on from the get-go (and keeping it on during lifts) is a great way to help create the high-energy environment we want!
Have the volunteer inputting next attempts and/or another volunteer help lifters choose what their next attempt is. Since this is a competition where many women have never competed before, your guidance on helping them choose next attempts will be helpful.
The difference maker between our events and others is the empowering environment. We had one judge that our athletes rant and rave about to this day that would tell them, “You can do it!” “You got this!” as they stepped up on the platform that was a game changer for them. Allow & encourage your volunteers to play an active role in making it a badass day!
If you see why the attempt was a fail, briefly encourage the athlete on what they can do better next time or why the judges called a no-lift. Particularly for new competitors, remind them that failing lifts is just part of the sport.
Lifters can have their own person hand off or a volunteer/you can hand off for bench. If the athlete doesn’t have a person there to help hand-off, ask them if they would prefer one or like to have one.
Many lifters will bring their own belts, but it may be helpful to have belts readily available for them.
Please have medical staff on site check the athlete to ensure safety. Ultimately, if you as the event host are questioning whether an athlete should participate due to injury/medical eval, you have full ability to medical DQ an athlete from the event. They will get a 100% free voucher for the next competition.
If an athlete doesn't show up...
Make a list of all athletes that didn't show up on meet day & make note of if they contacted you prior to meet day. You will submit this information in your final wrap up & feedback form.
In the case of an athlete communicating with you about their absence, please have them email us directly.
If there is a questionable judgment call...
For a good lift athletes need ⅔ judges say it’s a good lift. If there are repeated questionable judgment calls, you may briefly review lifting guidelines between flights with the judges again to ensure proper judging on lifts.
If an athlete drops out of a certain lift...
Place 0 in that lift attempt to continue with the event.
If an athlete wants to decrease their next attempt...
Inform them that, per the lifting packet and guidelines, they are able to attempt the same weight again, but they are not able to go down in weight for a succeeding attempt.
