Do I need prior hiking experience?
No prior hiking experience is required, but you should be comfortable being on your feet for several hours and hiking moderate terrain. The hike is guided and paced to support the group.
How challenging is the hike?
The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone hike is a moderate day hike with options to adjust distance and pace. Expect elevation changes, uneven terrain, and plenty of breaks to enjoy the scenery. The hike difficulty is 2/5 and distance is 8 miles. Terrain is 2/5 as lightly rugged. Max elevation is up to 250 feet.
What should I bring?
You’ll need proper hiking shoes, comfortable outdoor clothing, and personal items. Day packs, trekking poles, and picnic lunch for the hike are provided. A full packing list will be sent after registration.
Is this more adventure or relaxation?
Both. Friday’s hike is the main adventure, while Saturday is intentionally slower—focused on fun, downtime, and connection—so you leave feeling refreshed, not exhausted.
How should I train for the hike?
No special training plan is required, but a little preparation will make the experience more enjoyable. We recommend walking 3–5 times per week, gradually increasing time and distance. If possible, include hills or stairs to build leg endurance. Adding light strength work for legs and core can also help. The goal isn’t speed—it’s being comfortable on your feet for several hours. A detailed prep guide will be shared after registration.
A $500 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your spot. The remaining balance is due 60 days prior to the event. You may pay off your balance early at any time. Or you can pay in full and reserve your spot immediately.
What’s included in the expedition?
Your registration includes lodging, a professionally guided hike through the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, all means besides two (dinner Friday and Saturday night), transportation during the weekend, and the full XYL community experience.
Due to advance lodging and guide commitments, all payments are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend, transfers may be considered if we are able to fill your spot.
